I needed a winter running jacket. Last winter I wore my Marmot Precip jacket all winter long without complaint.  It kept me dry and warm all winter. People were surprised I used it to run in at all, but I loved it. I had looked last year for a running jacket but didn’t find any I thought would keep me warm enough without having to pile too many layers underneath. So my search continued this year until my husband found a new fall ultra light soft-shell jacket. I didn’t need another soft-shell jacket, I needed a winter running coat, but after wearing his a couple of times I wanted to have my own.

Again, not traditionally a winter running jacket, the Marmot Evolution jacket is prefect.  The Wind stopper Gore N2s fabric allows ventilation, but also stops the wind and water. My core is kept dry and warm from the elements and my own body’s perspiration. The soft-shelled material is flexible so I can fit a number of different layers underneath depending on my activity level and the weather, without ever feeling constricted or bulky. The soft-brushed lining provides a soft inner surface for comfort, no bunching or chaffing here! This jacket is extremely comfortable and is cut to sculpt a female’s torso.

Although the sinchable collar provides good protection, I would like to see a fitted hood added to make this coat even more versatile. I would also like to own a second one for recreation use because with such an effective wicking material it smells very bad after a couple uses and needs to be washed frequently (unless you don’t mind smelling).

So the jacket I was hesitant to purchase because I thought I would have limited use out of it I now wear almost daily: running, mountain biking, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and for around the town style. Marmot says this jacket “blurs category boundaries”, and I would have to agree.  This is a multi-purpose jacket. And as with all other Marmot products I have tried- a top quality one!
