Mississauga Half - More downhill racing!

Sunday May 11th 7:30am

Mississauga,Reebok Mississauga Half Marathon

To be perfectly honest I don’t know what’s going on with my running so far this season. Is it the flat/downhill courses, the new-found enthusiasm of being a part of Team Running Free or just reaping the benefits of some hard training with some real fast runners?Whatever the reason,I have now run PB’s in each of the 4 road races I’ve entered this season.

The latest was a somewhat last minute entered Mississauga Half Marathon.

Having run this race 3 years ago,I remembered it as  a fast, somewhat scenic, net downhill course.Starting in the epicentre of suburban sprawl,Square One Shopping Centre, continuin west across Burnamthorpe Road then winding down Missisauga Road, through the Erindale Campus of U of T and ending up on the bike paths of the lakefront at the mouth of the Credit River.

What other race of this size can you drive right to the starting corrals?Awesome.Lots of port-a-potties,well organized baggage check,Michael Burgess singing the anthem and encouragement from that grand dame herself,Hazel McCallion, mayor of Mississauga. What more does a runner need?

My goal was to run sub 20 minute 5k’s and I believe I achieved that, assuming the 10k marker was misplaced ’cause there is no way I ran the 11th kilometer in under 3 minutes!I haven’t trained that well!

Regardless,I was well pleased with a 1:22:00,besting my PB by a full 1min&30sec.

It must be the bright red aerodynamic, and recognized RF top that is propelling me along. It was great to hear supporters along the course calling out “Go Running Free!”

So far this season I am…Running Free!

Cheers

Anthony

    Wow anthony - congrats. You are such a speedster - 35min 10k, 1:22 half…3hr Paris-Ancaster…you are definitely tracking to a wicked season!

John - you’re confusing Anthony Davey with me (Anthony Dale). Davey is fast Anthony, as witnessed by this wicked time at Mississauga last weekend. I also PB’d at Mississauga but it was nowhere close to this speedster’s time. I might be able to do a 1:22 Half Marathon on a bike (see my Paris-Ancaster 2008 race report) but not running.

    Nice race Anthony Davey!
