FoxRiver Socks (review)
I waited almost a full year to write my socks review, in effect trying to get as much exposure in them as possible. Prior to 2008, I never gave much thought to socks, the fabrics they were made with, or the impact they had on performance. So long as my foot wasn’t sliding around in my shoe, my thoughts were on my running performance and nothing else.
Some of the reasons for thinking this way were that: 1. triathletes don’t race in socks, 2. I don’t run high mileage or long runs frequently, 3. only a few times have I ever gotten blisters running with socks.
Well all that changed once I started wearing foxriver socks. I had the low cut sock, in both light and ultralight options… both easily the lightest and least moisture-absorbing socks I have ever worn. And they were so form fitting, I almost felt like I was running without socks(minus the bleeding that I’d usually get running sockless in my triathlon races). Because I only had a few pairs, I reserved them for the most important runs/races. They certainly made a huge difference, as I was always comfortable, and absolutely no blisters all season. And I used these for running races, duathlons, even a few cross-country runs.
The most noticable difference was the lack of squeaking I heard all summer while running in very hot weather. Anyone who knows me, knows I can outsweat a 250lb linebacker anyday(well, almost), especially when working out above threshold for extended periods of time. As such, my old socks and shoes would absorb so much sweat, that after 15-20min it felt and sounded like I was running in puddles of water. I experienced none of that with the foxriver socks.
I didn’t run any running races without my foxriver socks in 2008, and I certainly don’t plan on running any races without them in 2009 and beyond.
