Salomon XT Wings 10+3 Vest

Last July I had a chance to run with some friends the La Cloche Silhouette Trail in Killarney Provincial Park.  The trail is about 100 km and fairly remote. We decided we’d run the trail in one push rather than the 2 to 4 days that is normally required. To do this, we would have to carry all our food and would fill our water bottles and hydration bladders in the rivers and lakes on the way.Having just received the Salomon XT Wings 10+3 vest pack I decided I would give it a shot for this run.The pack weighs in at 14 oz which is quite light considering the volume is 10 L and can expand to another 5 L (simply by unzipping a hidden zipper). 10 L were more than enough room for all of my food and gear for this run.  The pack fits a like a vest with a main zipper up the front and 2 large zippered pockets that allowed for quick access to nutrition.  It felt more like a piece of clothing than a cumbersome pack.  The external hydration bladder access allowed for quicker bladder refills during the run.  I added 2 of Salomon’s Custom Bottle holders to the shoulders of the pack for extra hydration/nutrition needs. After 18 hours ( almost half in the rain ) we finished the trail, had a quick nap and then we were off to Licks for burgers. From the modular bottle holders, to the quick access to the front pockets, the XT Wing 10+3 performed well beyond my expectations.

  • Thanks for the review. I am in the process of replacing my old Salomon vest and was looking at the Salomon XT wings. Your endorsement has convinced me to buy it. Cheers. Clayton, Christchurch, New Zealand.
