Lindsay Milk Run 5km

Race bib pick up is usually a big ordeal – especially for out of town events, I would like to start by stating it was very convenient to pick up my bib the day before the race at Ajax Running Free! Race day started off very gloomy – dark and rainy. As I arrived to the race location at the Lindsay Rec complex, I could already see runners warming up along the streets. I (like the car ahead of me) did not read the pre-race email that had a site map attached. Regardless some friendly volunteers directed us to the parking lot. and the beautiful complex that was great place to stay warm and dry before the race.

As the 10km runners started their race, I was off to start my warm up, surprised to see so many young runners out for the event. 20minutes later the 5 km racers were lining up at the start. The roads were wet, but the rain held off for the race. A nice upward slope in the first couple km was a small price to pay for the descend towards the finish line. The course was marked really well with large flags along the road to mark every km!

Post race festivities and race culture are the draw for many runners.  Many lined up for the ice cream (who wouldn’t), except for those who cannot or do not drink milk. I was VERY happy to see the Happy Rabbit (http://www.happyrabbittakeaway.com/)! The “I Can Has Green Smoothie” was the best post race refreshment ! Although, I am sure those eating the Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream would beg to differ.  The usual snacks were also provided (fruit and bagels). The results were posted promptly and the live band kept the party going until the awards. I will say however, the announcements began 90minutes after most of the winners crossed the finish line. It was a bit of a wait especially with the wet, cool weather. However, I think I will be back next year Lindsay, thanks for hosting a great event.
