Any runner knows a key difference between a good long run and one that ends prematurely in a dizzy, cramping mess is hydration. During the brutally hot summer months like those we had in 2025, especially when training for half marathons or full marathons, relying on plain water alone simply isn’t enough to replace the electrolytes lost through sweat. This is where GU Hydration Drink Tabs step in, and specifically, the Strawberry Hibiscus flavor has become one of my absolute favorite ways to keep my fluid and sodium levels balanced.
You can find them here: Gu Hydration Drink Tabs Single Strawberry Hibiscus – Running Free Canada
I found these tabs to be life savers during hot-weather runs in particular (though I also use them throughout). Each tablet has just 10 calories, in addition to 320 milligrams of sodium and 55 milligrams of potassium to help maintain fluid balance and delay fatigue – but what truly elevates the experience is the flavor profile.
The Strawberry Hibiscus is subtle but very refreshing. It avoids the common pitfall of being overwhelmingly sweet. This unique flavour combination also made me actively want to drink, which, in was important during hot runs!
The practicality of the tabs is another major selling point. Unlike messy powders, these tabs come pre-measured in a tube that’s easy to drop into a running vest pocket. Preparing my fuel is as simple as dropping a tab into my flask before a run or into a handheld bottle —they dissolve quickly and completely, leaving no gritty residue.
Using these tabs specifically during my hottest, longest summer runs proved their value. When I used these, my energy levels felt more stable and I didn’t feel like I cramped as much as I would have without them. For any runner facing the challenges of heat and humidity, integrating these tabs into your routine is a smart plan.
Oh – and if this flavour isn’t your jam, Running Free has several other varieties available too! 🙂
