As part of the Team RF lottery I was lucky to win a credit towards XACT nutrition.
I have used the fruit bars over the past year now in both training and racing for endurance running events.
Although they are called a “bar” I would describe them as a more like a large very soft chewy bar/chew. One of the great things about the bar is that that they are very easy to chew and when it’s cold they do not go hard and when it’s hot out they do not melt. I haven’t had any other nutrition product like this bar before so was pleasantly surprised how easy they were to consume as I expected a texture more like a traditional chew and it wasn’t at all. I guess that’s why they call it a bar rather than a chew 😊
When I am racing or training and not using real food, these bars are very useful when gels aren’t satisfying the empty belly feeling that can sometimes start to creep up over a few hours.
They are small to carry and still have 25g of carbs per bar so not much different than carrying a gel but they help with the hungry feeling while not causing any GI issues that real food may cause.
They are also very easy to digest and they have all natural ingredients. My go to flavours have been Orange and Strawberry but I have heard from other athletes there is no bad flavour and they all taste good.
I will say they They’re a bit more delicate than gels—if the package gets crushed, the bar can flatten and stick to the wrapper, making it harder to get out. So, a little extra care when packing them is needed.
Overall, I’ve been very pleased with these bars and will keep using them. I’m also excited to try other XACT products like the wafers and drink tabs!
