About Me: I love being outside - ideally with my family and ideally somewhere a little wild. Trail running in the woods, surfing, foiling, kiteboarding, snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding… I’m happiest moving. Waterman at heart. I was introduced to running by my dad in South Africa - watching Comrades and running 10Ks with him as a kid. When we moved to Canada in 1988, we bought my first tracksuit at Running Free. Running now is one of the ways I remember him. My wife says I run, but I’m “not a runner.” Still trying to earn that title.
Sports: Running, Surfing, Foiling, Kiteboarding, Snowboarding, Skiing, Skateboarding.
Athletic Goals: Stay healthy. Keep showing up. And one day hear my wife say, “Okay, fine - you’re a runner.”
My most catastrophic racing experience was: DNF at a 50-miler because I lost track of time at aid stations. Made it to 72K and was told I couldn’t continue the final stretch. Tough one.
My most memorable racing experience was: Arctic Triple Ultra in Lofoten, Norway. Drafting downhill with one of my closest friends, trading places, barely touching the ground. Ocean to one side, mountains to the other, 24-hour daylight. It felt less like running and more like flying.
Favourite Racing Gear: Trail - HOKA Speedgoat Road - ASICS Gel Nimbus
Favourite Race: Badger Mountain 100K
Favourite Race Food: Pickles, M&Ms, and Haribo sour candy. SKRATCH LABS Recovery (Strawberry + Cream) post-run. Currently loving the Bonk Breaker Sour Blue Razz energy gummies by SaltStick.
