Sporting Life 10k Run

– Date: May 06,2007
– Description: Running report
– Location: Toronto
– Race Name: SportingLife 10K

Well, it was my first race since last year after having inguinal hernia laparoscopy surgery and dealing with my ongoing IT band issues.

This was the first time that I participated in this race and I love it. It was perfectly organized with music bands almost every 2K cheering you up all the way down.

I finished under 44′ (43:37″) which was quite and accomplish for me considering that I am getting old and faster at the same time. When I started running, back in 2005, my PB was around 48′, now being able to knock down 4 minutes provides me with the sense of joy and motivation to keep me going in order to lower my time even further.

Unfortunately, I know that this course is almost all down hill; therefore, I feel like I could be cheating myself. The true will come when performing a different course run: i.e: Zoo Run 10k, or Angus Glen 10k.

Talking specifically about my performance on the race, I felt strong all the way until I had the bad idea of hydrate myself with the sport drinks offered at the 7k mark, as soon as a took a sip of it, my digestive system couldn’t cope with it and a side pain starts to developed on my body. From there, we ran together with the pain to the finish line, not a good companion I could tell you that for sure.

That experience, far from upset me, was consider as a lesson learned for my future races, especially for triathlons. Now I know for fact that I can not take any drink during my 10k running; all my hydrations will have to be done during the cycling portion of the race.

Thanks for taking your time and read about my experience.

Hope to see you out there, cheers.
