After all the time I waited for this race, the day was finally here. The Barrie Triathlon is my favourite race. It has an awesome course, great venue and the sun is always shining on race day. It is also one of the last stops of the Ontario Cup Points Series. I had dropped to third place in the standings because I hadn’t competed at the last three races. This was a good opportunity to get some points back because  none of the people ahead of me in the standings were competing. And to top it all off, I had a new bike.

Swim

I had a really good swim! Even considering the fact that my last swim wasn’t the greatest, this was a good swim for me. It took me a while to get comfortable in a position but I eventually found my way in second place behind someone who I did not recognize. I wasn’t gaining on them and I wasn’t close enough to get some draft off him. Luckily, I blew right by him as soon as I got out of the water.

T1

I finally had the transition I had been hoping for. Unluckily a team from Bermuda had some guys with really fast transitions. I ran out of transition fourth.

Bike

I had a smoking fast bike. As soon as I was on my bike I got myself into second. I picked up my pace and by the time I was 1/4 done the bike I was in first. Because the laps are so short in this race I saw and passed my brother who was in a younger age group. I continued to make a gap on my competitors and by the time I was done the bike I had a good lead.

T2

When I came in off the bike and I racked it, I realized that I hadn’t put my hat in transition. Oh well, to bad for me.

Run

I have had much better runs. Considering the fact that because of constant ankle injuries I haven’t been able to run a lot this year, it still wasn’t the greatest. Luckily though, I was fast enough that I crossed the finish line in first.
