Zoo Run 10K

This is probably one of my favourite races; actually I look at the zoo run as my bench mark.
My first ever 10K run was the 2005 Zoo Run, so it is also my “race anniversary” as well. Since then, and with a lot of training and hard work, I was able to shave approximately 1 minute 40 seconds down per year. Back in 2005 I ran in 47:30’, in 2006 I did it in 45:42’, now I am at 43:58’ with still a lot to improve.

The fact that I like the most of this race is the family friendly set up and organization. You get to run through the scenic zoo park while your family could be cheering you along at the same time as spotting the animals, I mean the zoo animals. Also, at the end of the run there is a cub fun run, which my son (4 years old) really enjoyed and looked forward the whole week.

The run course is probably on of the toughest ones I ran; due to the significant amount of turns and hills, setting up your pace it is extremely difficult; plus the fact that I missed a couple of marks (supposedly placed at every kilometre), running at my desired/targeted race pace was quite impossible.
At any rate, I set up my PB for this course, but knowing that with a better “pacing system” my performance will see more improvements.
Thanks for reading this short report.
