2008 Chilly Half Marathon (w/ Testosterone flair) ;-)

Well, for March 2nd, 2008 it was near perfect weather to race the Chilly Half-marathon. A couple of degrees warmer and I would have scared everyone with my overly-white legs. So tights it was.

As this is more of a test of my pace for this year’s Around the Bay and Boston I didn’t really set any specific finishing time in my head prior to the race. I decided to let the race develop based on how things felt. Thanks to this extreme winter, I suffered a grade 2-3 ankle sprain back on Jan. 29th. I didn’t want to set my training back. If I could improve on last year’s Chilly time of 1:30:52 clock and a 74th placing I’d be satisified.

Well things felt pretty good for most of the race as I held a 3:57 pace through 12km and then decided to ease it back as the foot was feeling a touch on the tender side. I finished with no issues in a clock time of 1:27:12 and a 50th placing. I was pleased overall, especially since my ankle is still getting stronger and I didn’t reinjure it.

There was more than enough chili and other food for all at the finish. I’m sure glad they switched from Tim Horton’s to Stagg chili. Nothing against Tim’s (I go there all the time) but the Stagg chili tasted better and was a lot less salty.

Anyway, this was a great race as always and I’m sure I’ll be back again next year. Race website: http://www.events.runningroom.com/site/?raceId=2792

  • Great Race Mike! Nice time to start the race season off, even on a healing ankle. At this pace you will have many memorable racing moments this year.
