Asics DS Trainer 13

ds13.jpgWhat can I say about this shoe other than it looks as though this is lucky 13 for sure. They found a way to improve the fit with an modified wrap at the flexpoint (Biomorphic Fit) and a new asymmetrical lace system (which I really like). It doesn’t hurt that the new colour scheme is pretty cool looking without being over-the-top flashy.I’ve owned the DS Trainer 11, 12 and now the 13 and I have to say that each time I’m more impressed and surprised they were actually able to improve an already great product. I love the light weight (9.6 oz for the 13) these shoes offer while still offering quite good cushioning and support. I use them for training runs even the 34km long runs as well as occasionally for races when I choose to not wear my racing flats.

ds132.jpgThey offer good medial posting for mild to moderate over-pronators (foot rolls inward) which is the majority of the running population. Understand that not everyone will be able to use it as a daily trainer but I can assure you that, if you train in 12-14 oz stability or motion control shoes, putting on a pair of lightweight stability shoes on race day really helps you feel light as bird.

ds133.jpgSo, if you’re trying to run a personal best, do like the elites do, where a lighter shoe on race day and reap the benefits of less energy wasted lifting your foot on each stride. With the the DS Trainer you can rest assured knowing that you’ll still get great support!
