Love that downhill Sporting Life 10k !

Sunday May4th 8am

I decided to do the “green” thing and instead of cabbing it to the start line of the Sporting Life 10k this past Sunday May 4th,I rode my bike up to the start line from the Beach.

Wrong!

Uphill into a wind was not the gentle warmup I had anticipated, but by race start my legs felt somewhat back to normal.

One of the reasons I applied to Team Running Free was for more contact with fellow runners, and no sooner had I entered the sub 40 minute corral and I was chatting with a team-mate,then another and another whom I hadn’t met prior to today.Awesome, exactly what I was looking for.Talking times, conditions, clothing, anything to forget about that nervous nausea I usually experience pre-race.

After a heartfelt speech by Pinball Clemons, the horn sounded and away we went.

Gotta love running mostly downhill, especially with stiff legs!I ran a pretty even pace the entire route down Yonge St. to Adelaide, south on Sherbourne and west on the Lakeshore until a bit of a sprint north onto Bremner Blvd.Again my training buddy Dave bested me,but I was happy with another PB (3rd of the season) coming in at 35:36 chip time and coincidentally 61st place,my same placing at Around The Bay!Gotta buy a lottery ticket with 6 and 1 in it,I guess.Just missed 3rd in my AG by 1 second, which would have been icing on the cake.

I found the course enjoyable, the race well organized and I think I’ll make it a staple in my run season.

Thanks to my new team-mates for the pre race chat.

Cheers

Anthony

  • Anthony: HARD CORE riding your bike and then running a 35:36?! WOW.

Try this next year at ATB: ride 90k from TO to Hamilton, run the 30k

  • Anthony,

I saw you fly by and was impressed then. Never mind now that I know you biked to the start. I tried to stay in behind you but I was tired out of the gate and gave up soon after you went by. Awesome run!
