5 Peaks – Albion Hills

The fourth installment of the 5 Peaks trail series was held on August 8th at the popular Albion Hills Park.  As one can expect from a 5 Peaks race, it was packed full of tough terrain and plenty of open sections to power past fellow racers.

The Albion Hills Enduro course featured plenty of switch-backs that makes one feel dizzy at times with the amount of twists and turns as you climbed up a hill or raced down the other side.  Personally, I enjoyed the large quick drops in elevation that were immediately followed by a long slow grind back to the top.  At one point, I wondered if I would ever see flat ground in the race.  I even made the ultimate trail runner mistake, looking forward while talking to a racer and not checking the ground.  I ended up tripping on a root and proceeded to eat dirt all while my fellow racers looked on with great enjoyable.

The first race of the series is coming up on September 12th.  Come on out to Horseshoe Resort and get that last trail in before Mother Nature draws the curtain on another great season.
