CN Tower Stair Climb ’07

CN Tower Stair Climb

CN Tower, Toronto On

Thursday October 18 (Saturday October 20)

Ok, so it’s not a 10 hour adventure relay or a 2-day adventure challenge but man is it ever a test of stamina (both physical and mental). Every year myself and a couple of other teachers at AHS organize a group of students to go down to the tower and climb in the United Way CN Tower Stair Climb. This year, we had 45 students (+ the 3 of us) attack the 1176 stairs (140 flights).  Each year we tell our group of students that it is going to be a lot tougher than they think and this year was no exception.  That being said, all of our students showed real grit and effort with each student completing the climb in a very respectable time. Our top female finished in 14 minutes and 23 seconds (Elyse Neiuwold, an Adventure Racer who won the ARC Barrie Outventure Race last weekend)  and our top male student finished in a time of 12:47.  As for myself, I set a Personal Best this year reaching the top in a time of 12 minutes and 15 seconds. Oh, and another AHS tradition continued at the top with all of our students  and teachers hitting the glass floor for 10 push-ups (seriously spectacular and a little freaky!!) .

If you have ever thought about climbing the tower or if you are just looking for a new physical challenge, I would encourage you all to give it a go. It’s a blast.

Marcus
