With the cool weather upon us, I was looking for a solid sock to pair with my Salomon hiking boots on the weekends and Blundstones that I wear daily for work. As a teacher, I’m on my feet all day, so comfort and temperature control are key! Not having bought a pair of FEETures before I wasn’t familiar with what makes them special. And I made an effort to not actually look into the special characteristics of the brand so I could do an unbiased, ‘first look’ review. The first thing I noticed, and subsequently realized was a FEETures advantage, was the absence of the toe seam. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference because regardless of what footwear I’m wearing, it means that there is no friction or annoying clump of fabric to sort out. The next thing I noticed was the quality of the materials. The wool and TENCEL fiber combination is very soft to the touch. The combination makes for perfect temperature control, never too hot on the hike/trail run; and never too sweaty at work in my dress shoes and Blundstones boots. At first, I thought it would be a problem, the softness and smooth touch might lead to the socks falling down and not staying up near the bottom of my calves (a near perfect fit for me). However, after a few hikes and multiple wash cycles, they still feel great and they still hold their original elasticity. I’m thoroughly impressed with their durability. Lastly, the targeted compression in the arch is well thought out. It’s not overly tight, something I’ve found in other brands of technical socks. Other socks feel like they are designed to be tight and then loosen up (and eventually lose) their compression, but these FEETures have been consistently supportive over their life span. I’m impressed and will definitely be buying more socks in the future.
