On Saturday, July 14 I was set to compete at the next stop of the Ontario Cup Series. The distances were in my favor. I had the same swim distance as my last race, a shorter bike, and the same run. My adantage comes in the swim and run so the short bike was to my liking. Also, this was the first race where my age group could use clipless pedals. And guess what? I didn’t have any.

The Swim

I had a terrible swim. I first out of the water by 25m but my time 14 seconds slower than I had wanted. Mind the fact that I didn’t realize that I hadn’t swam for a week and usually I swim six times a week. Otherwise, I had a great start and it was looking good going into T-1.

T-1

My first transition was terrible. I couldn’t get my shoe on and because of that instead of having a 25 metre lead everyone was right on my tail going out on the bike.

The Bike

As soon as I was on my bike I hammered. I knew everyone behind me had to put on thier clips so I tried to get a good lead. Then I rode as fast as my body would let me for 8km scared sick. You would be to If the guy behind was a better biker than you and 25 Ontario Cup points were at stake.

T-2

My second transition was good. I came in, racked my bike, lost the helmet, and ran for the run exit.

The Run

I had a good run. I had a small stitch but it didn’t matter. I was running fast. The only thing I had to do was hold my lead. I made a big one. I past the turnaround and was home free. I won the race and then found out I missed the course record by 30 seconds. Bummer. But I had a great race and am excited to do my next race in Barrie on August 12. If anyone is racing there tell me.
