As many of the greats have said, “recovery is the fourth discipline in a triathlon”. I can’t stress how important recovery is for any endurance sport. As we swim, bike or run we need to replace all of the nutrition that our body uses to keep us going. As avid athletes we all know this and we all have different techniques, brands and flavours that we prefer.
Today I am writing to tell you about two products, GU Brew and GU Recovery.
To me, GU Brew is another form of Gatorade, Poweraide or Eload. It’s drink that we take with us to help us along our route that specific day. The mix is pretty simple. The best result I found was to fill my bottle half water and then add the Brew. Shake it well, give it a few minutes then add the rest of the water and shake again. I then leave it in the fridge for an hour or so to get cold. The only downside to this for me was that I left it in the fridge for too many days and it turned bad, which could be expected. So now I only make it when I know I am going to need it.
Another very important part of recovery is after the workout. Get home, stretch and then start to replenish our muscles from what we just expended. I tried GU Recovery and just as the Brew, it was tasty and easy to make. I bought the chocolate flavour and when mixed with milk, ice and a little water while being blended it tasted just like a chocolate milkshake. Drinking something tasty and recovering my body at the same time seems like a great idea to me.
I would highly recommend either of these two products for your recovery needs.
