Nathan Trail Mix 4 Hydration Belt

It was time for a new fuel belt. I’ve been running with a belt with only two flasks and I’ve found there just wanted enough fuel for my long runs once my distance is up over 2ok. I opted for the Trail Mix 4 by Nathan. It was a great choice!

Unlike my previous fuel belt, this one does not have a Velcro closure but rather a swivel buckle closure. The belt is fully adjustable — tighten or extend the size of the belt on either side — a one size fits all design. The ‘extensions’ used to adjust the size of the belt, neatly roll up and tuck in beside the bottle holders with a Velcro closure so they aren’t in the way and don’t flap around when you run. Adjusting on the run is not as easy as a Velcro closure so it’s best to make sure it fits properly before starting out.

The belt has a zippered pocket (which can be worn at the front or the back). The zippered pocket has a small Velcro compartment on the inside which is great for a piece of ID or credit card and know it will stay secure. There is also an additional mesh pocket with Velcro closure on the outside of the zippered compartment which is perfect for storing fuel-on-the-go items like Gels. The zippered pocket is a nice size — I found the pocket on my prior belt too small and items we’re crammed into it — sometimes I wasn’t able to fit everything I wanted on my run. This pocket is large enough to store car keys, a phone, tissues, Gels/ fuel, money — anything you would  need on a long.

The flasks themselves each hold 10 ozs of fluid. The lids are secure and don’t leak which was a welcome relief! The flasks are easy to remove and return to the belt on the run. The flasks that come with the belt all have the same coloured lids. There are lids with different coloured caps sold separately for those who like to colour code their fuel. I’ve not yet opted for this but may in the future.

The belt is hand washable (which we know is necessary after those hot summer runs)! The flasks and lids are machine washable (upper rack only) which makes for easy clean-up post run.

Most importantly is how comfortable this belt is on the run — flasks do not bounce and stay secure. Having only previously run with a belt with two flasks, I was concerned about the extra weight and the flasks being in the way. I was very pleased to find my run was unencumbered.

Overall I’m very pleased and would recommend this product.
